# Visual Layer Programming
|
|
The <xref:System.Windows.Media.Visual> object is a core WPF object, whose primary role is to provide rendering support. User interface controls, such as <xref:System.Windows.Controls.Button> and <xref:System.Windows.Controls.TextBox>, derive from the <xref:System.Windows.Media.Visual> class, and use it for persisting their rendering data.
